Coverage
A 500ml tin provides coverage of up to 7m² per coat, depending on the surface and application method.
For a durable finish, a minimum of two coats is recommended.
Porous surfaces, including bare wood and MDF, may absorb more paint and require additional coats.
Actual coverage will depend on surface porosity, preparation, application thickness and the desired finish.
Surface Preparation
Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, sound and free from grease, wax, loose paint and other contaminants before painting.
Remove loose or flaking paint from previously painted surfaces.
Clean thoroughly using Frenchic Sugar Soap, rinse and allow the surface to dry completely.
Lightly sand surfaces where appropriate to provide a suitable key for paint adhesion.
Remove all sanding dust before applying paint.
For bare MDF and other highly porous surfaces, additional preparation may be required to achieve a smooth and even finish.
For a smoother finish on bare MDF, Frenchic recommends applying two coats of Frenchic Finishing Coat before painting.
For bare or rusty ferrous metal, remove rust and loose coatings before applying an appropriate metal primer in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Some previously treated or difficult surfaces may require additional preparation or specialist priming.
Take care when opening the tin and use a suitable paint tin opener.
Stir thoroughly before use with a wide implement, such as a Frenchic Paint Paddle.
When using multiple tins on the same project, check batch numbers and intermix paint from different batches where necessary to maintain colour consistency.
Application and Drying
Apply using a good-quality paintbrush or roller suitable for interior trim painting.
For spray application, the paint may be thinned with up to 15% tap water where permitted by the manufacturer's instructions and suitable for the equipment being used.
Additional coats may be required when the paint has been thinned for spraying.
Avoid repeatedly brushing over paint as it begins to dry to allow the self-levelling formula to minimise brush marks.
Allow a minimum of 4 hours between coats, depending on temperature, humidity and application conditions.
Apply at least two coats for the intended finish and durability.
Additional coats may be required depending on surface porosity, the original colour and the desired finish.
Allow painted surfaces to dry sufficiently before returning them to normal use.
Curing and Durability
Frenchic Trim Paint may take approximately 2–3 weeks to fully cure and achieve its intended hardness under normal conditions.
Handle freshly painted surfaces carefully during the curing period.
Avoid heavy use, abrasion, excessive cleaning and prolonged moisture exposure until the paint has fully cured.
For frequently used surfaces, such as doors, skirting boards, cupboards and furniture, allow sufficient curing time before returning them to heavy use.
Cleaning and Storage
Reseal the tin securely after use.
Clean up spills promptly using water.
Wash brushes, rollers and equipment in warm, soapy water immediately after painting.
Store the tin securely in a dry location, protected from damp, frost, freezing conditions and excessive heat.
