- Typical R-Value of 6.90 for 150mm thickness
Unilin CavityTherm is an engineered solution that delivers ultimate U-values in traditional wall constructions, making it a practical choice for energy-efficient homes.
Its innovative profiled facing ensures moisture that may penetrate the external wall is directed to the outer leaf, offering additional protection from wind-driven rain.
The rebated edge design ensures a tight interlock during installation, preventing thermal bridging and ensuring a continuous layer of insulation.
CavityTherm’s tailored ancillary pieces also ensure effective insulation around services like hockey sticks, meter boxes, and corner details, improving thermal performance.
Typical Physical Characteristics:
- Density: 30 kg/m³
- Compressive Strength: >100 kPa @ 10%
- Service Temperature: -20°C to +100°C
The profiled edge design also allows for wall ties to be sloped to the outer face, preventing water from travelling along the ties into the construction.

Frequently asked questions:
What is CavityTherm?
CavityTherm is a composite insulation board with a PIR core and a thermal conductivity of 0.021 W/mK.
It has gas-tight facings and an engineered HIPS skin for moisture management.
What are the benefits of CavityTherm?
CavityTherm delivers Passive House-standard U-values and a continuous, accurate insulation system that reduces heat loss and increases energy efficiency.
Which wall ties are compatible?
Standard stainless steel wire wall ties are used with CavityTherm.
At up to 5 ties per m², thermal impact is minimal, but wider cavities may require low conductivity ties.
What thicknesses are available?
CavityTherm comes in 100mm, 125mm, and 150mm cavity thicknesses, offering U-values as low as 0.12 W/m²·K.
What building types can use CavityTherm?
CavityTherm is suitable for new external masonry cavity walls up to 25m in height in both domestic and non-domestic buildings.
What accessories are available?
CavityTherm has a range of bespoke accessories designed to address thermal bridging and airtightness, ensuring full insulation continuity.
How do you detail insulation around complex areas?
Unilin provides bespoke insulated pieces to ensure proper detailing around services, preventing thermal bridging and condensation.
What’s the advantage of the ‘Engineered Edge Detail’?
The engineered edge ensures continuous insulation and avoids U-value penalties associated with poor jointing, in line with building regulations.
What should I use to seal board joints?
Use a waterproof tape to seal joints or a self-adhesive jointing strip for added security when boards abut.
What is the Cavity Board?
A cavity board is placed over installed boards to catch any mortar drops during construction, ensuring a clean HIPS surface that’s easy to clean.
