Arc Tilers Primer is a styrene butadiene co-polymer emulsion for use as a primer, bonding agent and sealer formulated to improve, adhesion strength and long-term durability of the bond between the adhesive and any surface substrate.
It is a safe to use and can be applied to a wide range of building materials including applications where contact with water is likely.
Arc Tilers Primer can be used as a water-proof bonding agent when mixed as a slurry with neat cement and can readily be incorporated into mixes of sand cement screeds, plasters and renders, giving a water reducing and plasticising effect, as well as improving wet-tack and adhesion of the render to the existing base masonry.
Arc Tilers Primer is an excellent primer for porous surfaces such as gypsum plaster, old / worn concrete, sand cement screeds and render by reducing porosity, surface dusting and improving initial tack so that subsequently applied adhesives, renders or screeds can achieve a secure and lasting key with the base substrate.
Key features:
- A high quality styrene butadiene co-polymer emulsion for use as a primer, bonding agent and sealer.
- Formulated to improve, adhesion strength and long-term durability of the bond between the adhesive and any surface substrate
- It is a safe to use and can be applied to a wide range of building materials including applications where contact with water is likely
- 5 litres
- Ideal for Trades people and for DIY
Using Tilers Primer as a Primer:
For porous, worn, or dusty concrete floors, clean the surface thoroughly, then dilute ARC Tilers Primer (1 part primer to 3 parts water) and apply one generous coat.
This seals the surface, reduces suction, and prevents dusting.
A second coat or 1:1 dilution may be needed for very porous surfaces.
Cracked or friable surfaces should be repaired before applying top coatings.
Suitable for use on gypsum plaster, cement render walls, worn concrete, cement sand floor screeds, chipboard, and worn plywood.
Using Tilers Primer as a Sealer:
Ensure timber ply-boards and panels are clean before sealing with neat ARC Tilers Primer on all exposed faces and edges.
Then, dilute with water (1 part primer to 3 parts water) and brush across the surface to be tiled.
Apply adhesive while the surface is still slightly tacky.
For gypsum-based materials (e.g., Anhydrite screeds), apply two coats of neat primer, allowing each coat to dry before the next.
Using Tilers Primer as a Bonding Agent:
ARC Tilers Primer can bond fresh render, plaster, concrete, or screed to existing masonry or cement-based adhesives to non-porous surfaces like vinyl tiles.
Wet the surface to a damp but not waterlogged state.
Mix the primer with cement or adhesive (1:1) to create a brushable slurry, and apply before it fully dries.
The slurry also serves as a waterproof tanking treatment for masonry when applied in three coats.
Using as a Cement Screed:
For repairs to concrete floors or vertical renders, mix ARC Tilers Primer with Ordinary Portland Cement (5 litres per 50kg) or up to 15 litres for heavy traffic areas.
For screeds, use 1 part OPC to 3 parts washed sand, or 1 part 6mm coarse aggregate for thick-section screeds.
ARC Tilers Primer enhances strength, durability, shrink resistance, and reduces water permeability.
Coverage:
The consumption of ARC TILERS PRIMER for any particular application depends heavily upon the texture and porosity of the surface it is applied to and the figures shown below are intended as a rough guide only.
ADMIXTURE: 5 to 15 litres per 50kg of OPC 3
BONDING SLURRY: 5 square metres per litre
PRIMER/ SEALER: Up to 20 square metres per litre
