How to Replace the Combiphos Refill for Your Cistermiser Combimate
- Turn Off Water Flow:
- Depress the two red buttons on the Combimate unit and pull the cover away from the device. This action will automatically shut off the water flow through the unit.
- Prepare for Refilling:
- Place a bowl or container under the Combimate unit to catch any residual Combiphos or water that may spill out during the process.
- Remove the Filler Plug:
- Use the spanner provided to unscrew the red filler plug located on the top of the Combimate unit.
- Remove the Aluminium Ring:
- Unscrew and carefully remove the aluminium ring that holds the dome in place.
- Detach the Dome:
- Lift off the dome from the base of the unit. Empty any exhausted Combiphos crystals from inside the dome and clean the base if necessary.
- Replace the ‘O’ Ring Seal:
- Fit a new ‘O’ ring seal into the groove at the top of the base where the dome sits. This ensures a proper seal when reassembling.
- Refill with Combiphos:
- Insert the new Combiphos crystals through the refill hole in the dome. For single appliance protection, place 400g of Combiphos on the Divider Tray and leave the tray in place. For complete system protection, remove the Divider Tray and fill the dome with the full 800g of Combiphos.
- Reassemble the Unit:
- Reattach the dome to the base, making sure it fits securely. Reinstall the aluminium ring and tighten it into place.
- Secure the Filler Plug:
- Screw the red filler plug back into the top of the dome, using the spanner to ensure it is firmly in place.
- Replace the Cover:
- Put the front cover back onto the Combimate unit and press until it clicks into place. Ensure the unit is correctly sealed.
- Check and Test:
- After reassembly, check for any leaks and ensure the unit is functioning correctly. The water flow should be restored, and the device should be ready for continued use.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your Combimate continues to operate effectively, providing reliable limescale and corrosion protection for your home’s water system.
Frequently Asked Questions:
-
Why do I need to replace the Combiphos?
- Combiphos crystals gradually dissolve over time as they interact with the water. Regular replacement ensures the Combimate continues to effectively prevent limescale and reduce soft water corrosion. It’s recommended to refill annually for optimal performance.
-
How often should I replace the Combiphos?
- You should replace the Combiphos crystals once a year. Regular maintenance helps maintain the effectiveness of the Combimate device in preventing limescale buildup and corrosion.
-
Can I replace the Combiphos myself?
- Yes, replacing the Combiphos is straightforward and can be done yourself by following the step-by-step guide provided. No special tools are required, just the spanner included with the unit.
-
What if I forget to replace the Combiphos annually?
- If you miss a replacement, the effectiveness of the Combimate in preventing limescale and corrosion will diminish over time. It is best to replace it as soon as possible to ensure continued protection for your water system.
-
How do I know if the Combiphos needs to be replaced?
- If you notice a decrease in the effectiveness of the Combimate, such as increased limescale buildup or corrosion, it may be time to replace the Combiphos. Regular annual checks are recommended to maintain optimal performance.
-
Can I use any type of polyphosphate with the Combimate?
- Only use the Combiphos crystals specifically designed for use with the Combimate. These are food-grade polyphosphates that meet safety and performance standards.
-
Is there a special procedure for refilling the Combiphos?
- Follow the above provided steps carefully: turn off the water, remove the old Combiphos, clean the unit, and refill with the appropriate amount of new Combiphos. Ensure the dome and seal are properly reassembled to avoid leaks.
-
Can I refill the Combimate with Combiphos if it is installed in a warm area?
- Ideally, refill the Combimate in a cool environment. If the unit is installed in a warm area, the Combiphos may dissolve more quickly. Ensure the unit is relocated to a cooler area if possible for optimal performance.
-
What should I do with the old Combiphos?
- Dispose of the old Combiphos crystals according to local waste disposal regulations. They are typically not hazardous, but it’s best to follow local guidelines for proper disposal.
