Coverage
A 750ml tin provides coverage of up to 12.5m² per coat, depending on the surface and application method.
For a durable finish, a minimum of two coats is required.
On suitable non-porous surfaces, such as properly prepared laminate or metal, a 750ml tin should provide approximately 6m² of coverage when applying two coats.
Porous surfaces, including bare wood and MDF, may absorb more paint and require additional coats to achieve a durable finish.
Coverage will depend on surface porosity, preparation, application thickness and the desired finish.
Avoid applying the paint too thinly, as this may affect durability.
Surface Preparation
Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, sound and free from grease, wax, loose paint and other contaminants before painting.
Remove any loose or flaking paint from previously painted surfaces.
Clean using Frenchic Sugar Soap, rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
Sand the surface as appropriate to provide a suitable key for paint adhesion.
Remove all sanding dust before applying paint.
Exterior wooden surfaces must be thoroughly dry before painting, particularly following rainfall.
For bare MDF and other porous surfaces, additional preparation may be required to achieve a smooth and even finish.
For bare MDF, Frenchic Finishing Coat may be used as part of the recommended surface preparation.
For bare or rusty ferrous metal, remove rust and loose coatings before applying an appropriate metal primer in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
Some surfaces may require additional preparation or specialist priming before applying Frenchic Al Fresco.
Take care when opening the tin and use a suitable paint tin opener.
Stir thoroughly with a wide implement, such as a paint paddle, before each use.
Application Conditions
For best results, apply when temperatures are between 10°C and 32°C and relative humidity is below 85%.
Avoid painting in direct sunlight or when surfaces are excessively hot.
For outdoor projects, do not apply if rain, frost, fog or temperatures below 10°C are expected within the following 48 hours.
Ensure exterior surfaces are completely dry before painting.
Always check weather conditions before starting outdoor painting projects.
Application and Drying
Apply using a good-quality paintbrush or roller suitable for the surface being painted.
For spray application, the paint may be thinned with up to 15% water where permitted by the manufacturer's instructions and suitable for the equipment being used.
Avoid overworking the paint during application to allow the self-levelling formula to minimise brush marks.
Allow a minimum of 2 hours between coats, depending on temperature, humidity and application conditions.
Apply at least two coats to achieve a durable finish.
Additional coats may be required on porous surfaces or where greater coverage is needed.
Allow the painted surface to dry thoroughly before returning it to normal use.
Curing and Durability
Frenchic Al Fresco may take up to 3 weeks to fully cure and achieve its intended hardness under normal conditions.
Handle freshly painted surfaces carefully during the curing period.
Avoid heavy use, excessive cleaning, abrasion and prolonged moisture exposure until the coating has fully cured.
For outdoor furniture and surfaces, follow Frenchic's preparation, application and curing recommendations to achieve the intended weather-resistant finish.
Using Frenchic Al Fresco on Floors
Frenchic Al Fresco can be used on certain interior wooden, concrete and laminate floors, subject to correct surface preparation and the manufacturer's suitability guidance.
Apply the required number of coats and allow sufficient drying time before walking on the painted surface.
Avoid walking on newly painted floors for at least 4 hours after application.
For the following 7 days, use socks rather than outdoor footwear when walking on the painted surface.
Keep pets and their claws away from the freshly painted floor during this initial curing period.
Do not allow the painted surface to become wet for at least one week.
Treat the floor carefully for up to 3 weeks while the paint fully cures.
Painted floors may require ongoing maintenance depending on foot traffic, cleaning and wear.
Cleaning and Storage
Reseal the tin securely after use.
Clean up spills promptly using water.
Wash brushes, rollers and equipment in warm, soapy water immediately after painting.
Store the tin securely in a dry location, protected from damp, frost, freezing conditions and excessive heat.
