Need a flue for your boiler?

Choosing the correct flue for a Grant oil boiler (or any boiler for that matter) is an important decision that will impact the performance, efficiency, and safety of your heating system.

A flue is a pipe that removes the combustion gases from your boiler and vents them outside your home. The correct flue is critical to ensure that the boiler operates safely and efficiently, and to avoid potential hazards such as carbon monoxide poisoning.

Here are some key factors to consider when choosing the correct flue for your Grant oil boiler:

Boiler Type and Model:

The type and model of your boiler will determine the type of flue required. Grant oil boilers are available in different models, including external, internal, and combi models.

Each type of boiler requires a different flue configuration, so it is important to consult the manufacturer’s instructions to determine the correct flue for your specific boiler model. You can see the instructions for each model on the relevant product page here.

Flue Size:

The size of the flue will depend on the size of the boiler and the length of the flue run. The flue size must be large enough to handle the volume of combustion gases produced by the boiler.

If the flue is too small, it can result in poor combustion and reduced efficiency. If the flue is too large, it can lead to excessive heat loss and reduced efficiency. You can see our various options here and you can contact us at any time if you need help and advice – just get in touch!

Flue Material:

The material used for the flue will depend on the type of boiler and the flue configuration. The most common materials used for flues are stainless steel, PVC, and polypropylene. Stainless steel is durable and corrosion-resistant, making it a popular choice for external flues. PVC and polypropylene are lightweight and easy to install, making them ideal for internal flues. Almost all oil boilers will have recommended flues so these will have been designed and constructed by the manufacturer to suit the particular model.

Flue Location:

The location of the flue is also important to consider. An external flue will require a suitable location on the outside of your home, away from windows and doors. An internal flue will need to be installed in a suitable location, such as a chimney or flue shaft. It is important to ensure that the flue is installed in a safe and accessible location to allow for regular maintenance and inspections.

You can see all of our various flues available here.

Building Regulations:

It is important to ensure that the flue installation complies with building regulations and safety standards. The installation must be also carried out by a qualified and registered heating engineer who is familiar with the regulations and standards for flue installations.

You can source a qualified installer through the likes of the OFTEC website here.

Choosing the correct flue for your Grant oil boiler is a critical decision that requires careful consideration of several factors, including the boiler type and model, flue size, material, location, and building regulations.

Consult the manufacturer’s instructions and seek the advice of a qualified heating engineer to ensure that your flue is installed safely and correctly, and to ensure that your boiler operates at maximum efficiency and safety.
